Puerh Brooklyn Review: A Hidden Tea Shop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Why I went in
I got off the bus in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and the first thing I see across the street; a large glass store window with “Tea” written on it. It look very curated, tasteful and classy. I had to enter and see exactly what they had to offer. This isn’t a neighborhood I visit regularly but I have been going more often these last couple month. Somehow I didn’t pay attention to this place before even though I walked on this street before. The exact google location here.
First impression
The shop balanced minimalist industrial architecture with warmth, avoiding the overly performative aesthetic many Williamsburg spaces fall into. The space was very quiet, I could hear voices, they were resonating from downstairs which offered additional room to the shop. I had time to quietly peruse and notice all the little details of the selection such as the cards which were biodegradable with flour seeds inside, a large selection of tuocha that could be bought as a gift to tea beginners. The selection was broad and excellent, very tasteful. I later chatted with the owner who is originally from Argentina and I understood why he had a great selection of maté.
What stood out
This place has a great selection of Puerh teas and everything there could be a great gift for someone familiar with tea or not. The ambiance was very soothing even if there was a bit of that Brooklyn industrial edge given by the unique architecture and airy space inside. Glass and wood, worked in harmony, this is obviously taken care of by someone who understand these things.
What stood out most was the broad selection of teas, including gift-able smaller sizes, and the great maté.

Exploring the Shop
I did not purchase tea during this first visit because it was completely impromptu and I already had other plans that day. Still, I spent time quietly browsing the selection, taking photographs, and speaking briefly with the owner. Before leaving, I picked up a card and added my name to their newsletter. I would gladly return to explore their teas more carefully in the future. I later realized this tea shop sits on the way to another matcha-focused café I had visited in Williamsburg before.
Overall thought
This is a little hidden gem in a neighborhood that has flourishing quality tea shops like Bellocq or Kettl even though they’re a bit more north of this location.
Closing line
I highly recommend if you’re heading to the popular part of Williamsburg. I’d probably return to try their Earl Grey which has good reviews from what I have read.
