Cold brew has been keeping me up at night lately. While in California I tried Dutch Bros for the first time and wanted to switch things up, so today at Bread Savage in downtown Visalia I went for matcha instead, even knowing about the matcha shortage. I asked one of the team members first, and he said their matcha was pretty good, so I gave it a try.

I ordered a matcha latte with vanilla and lavender. The staff were lovely, and from where I stood I could see the barista whisking the matcha by hand, which is a huge plus in my book.

The lavender and vanilla took me straight back to Nohohon, the organic matcha shop in New York City that my friend founded and that has sadly closed (it is in my list of places where I tried matcha in NYC). One of my favourite drinks there was the Furano Field, made with lavender, and this latte reminded me of it. It was good.

Bread Savage is a small, French-leaning bakery at 110 W Main Street, Visalia, CA 93291 (@breadsavagebakeshop on Instagram), opened in 2022 by Brooke and Chase Darwin, with everything baked from scratch. Next time I will have to try the pastries. It is open Monday to Saturday 7am to 4pm and Sunday 9am to 3pm.
