Kawanecha Meicha by Mariages Frères
Updated with current notes from Mariage Frères (2026)
Kawanecha Meicha is a Japanese green tea from Mariage Frères. I first discovered it in Paris at the boutique near Place des Ternes on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré.
The shop felt elegant, quiet, and welcoming. The aroma of tea filled every room. It quickly became one of my favorite places to visit in Paris.
At the time, I could not find Kawanecha in the U.S. That made bringing a pouch home feel even more special.
Today, Mariage Frères calls Kawanecha the “Darjeeling of Japan.” Farmers grow the tea along the Ōi River in the Shizuoka region. The tea has elegant leaves, a balanced flavor, and a rich yet delicate aroma.
I enjoy drinking it during slow afternoons or quiet moments at home.
The current 100g pouch makes about 40 cups. Mariage Frères still presents it in the brand’s signature black packaging.
You can learn more about the tea and the world of “Thé Français” on the official Mariage Frères website.
